Helping families thrive

About

Our focus is your child’s well-being.

Helping families of the North Shore since 1945

Our pediatric practice has been a part of the fabric of Wilmette and the surrounding area since the middle of the 20th century. And through those years, we've been privileged to care for the children of the North Shore and contribute to this thriving community.

Dr Josephine Earlywine founded our office. She was a protégée of Dr Louis Sauer, known for perfecting the vaccine for whooping cough. In 1981, Dr Peter Lewy took over when Dr Earlywine retired and continued the tradition of caring for the local community

Today we are four providers with diverse backgrounds, unique styles, and varied interests: Patricia Brunner, MD, Shoshana Waskow, MD, Robert Hartemayer, MD, and Dilshad Tajuddin, Advanced Practice Nurse. Along with our wonderful team of nurses and administrators, we are committed to the health and well-being of our community’s future generations.

PEDIATRICIAN

Robert Hartemayer, MD

As a Winnetka native and graduate of New Trier High School and Northwestern University, I have strong ties to Chicago’s North Shore and I am excited to serve the community where I grew up! From a young age, I was drawn to a career in medicine because I loved studying science and had a passion for helping others.

While I enjoy reviewing medical literature to provide evidence-based guidance to my patients, I’ve found that what really drives me is building personal relationships with families. As a pediatrician, I appreciate treating kids of all ages and seeing them grow and develop before my eyes. I especially love seeing the amazing developmental changes that babies undergo during the first months of life. With older children and adolescents, I like hearing about the goals they have achieved and the challenges they face while providing guidance to prepare for adulthood.

I currently reside in Wilmette with my wife, our son, our daughter and our bernedoodle Tucker. When my wife and I are not refereeing play time between our two kids, we like to spend our time working in our garden, walking to local coffee shops, attempting home improvement projects and trying out new recipes (This Old House and Food Network are family favorites).

PEDIATRICIAN

Shoshana Elkin Waskow, MD

I knew early on that I wanted to practice community-based medicine and sought out training experiences in medical school and residency which reflected that interest. Joining PANS in 2008 was the best realization of this long-term goal which I could have imagined. I find great joy in partnering with parents and children as they learn about development, health, and safety with the goal of thriving, resilient kids. I also care about engaging with the larger community and have enjoyed teaching in-service sessions to Wilmette Public School District 39 nurses and teachers and presenting at Baker Demonstration School.

I have been active on department and professional staff committees at NorthShore University HealthSystem and Lurie Children’s Hospital and regularly teach medical students and pediatric residents in the office and the hospital. I am a physician leader for the community practices which use Lurie’s electronic medical record, working to provide the highest quality of care, efficiency of record-keeping and close communication with colleagues via our EMR.

My husband and I have loved raising our two (now young adult) children in the diverse community of Evanston. Time with my family is a mix of uproarious laughter and insightful conversations. We like cooking together at home and traveling to new places. I enjoy biking to the office when time and weather allow and taking walks in our neighborhood. I am an active member of several Jewish congregations and community organizations.

PEDIATRICIAN

Patricia Brunner, MD

I was raised in Glenview and now live in Wilmette. I love living in the same community I serve. I especially enjoy saying hello to our families when I am out and about in town. I like working with patients of all ages—babies through young adults. The challenges of each age range always fascinate me. My mom and my sister are both teachers and I thought I might teach as a profession when I was younger. Alas, I was drawn to the science of medicine. In retrospect, I am thrilled to learn that teaching is a big part of my workday. We teach pediatric residents and medical students in our office. And, of course, I also do a lot of teaching with our families. I teach parents of new babies, teenagers, and young adults AND I teach patients themselves. I especially love when I’m passing on information and knowledge I learned from my now retired senior partners Dr Peter Lewy and Dr Gail Shorr.

My husband and I have 3 children who keep us busy. As a family we like to hike and take walks together. We also enjoy hanging out at home reading or watching movies. Our newest addition is our dog Charlie. He is a great reason to get a “W-A-L-K “ in every day! (Don’t say the word out loud unless you’re ready at the door with the leash!)

ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE

Dilshad Tajuddin, RN, MSN, FNP

My first job as a nurse was in the Infant Special Care Unit (ISCU) of Evanston Hospital / NorthShore University HealthSystem. I worked for over 15 years in their neonatal intensive care unit. The little people that I met there, who could barely even cry, won my heart and got me interested in pediatrics. When I receive holiday cards from these families, it brings me joy and delight that I can’t express in words.

I have proudly served the PANS community as a Registered Nurse since 2013. Now I am honored to serve the same community as a Nurse Practitioner. I hope to build lasting bonds with all of our families.

My first contact with PANS was when my daughter was born. She will soon be heading to college. I live in Glenview with my husband and two lovely girls. We cook together, which has been a source of bonding, stress relief and learning. We enjoy hiking, biking and travelling. I play throwball and enjoy running.

OUR PRACTICE MANAGER & OUR NURSE MANAGER

Nichole Cruz and Tia Kowalewski

Nichole Cruz and Tia Kowalewski, RN, BSN are the heart of the PANS team. Nichole grew into her career in our office. Joining the team as a receptionist, she was a natural leader — becoming Assistant Practice Manager and then assuming her current position as Practice Manager in 2020. She supervises our reception staff and manages many aspects of the office and physical facilities. She coordinates financial management with our billing company, HuTech Resources. Tia joined us in 2017 with 2 decades of pediatric nursing experience. She is the cornerstone of our clinical team—supporting the physicians, facilitating the nursing staff, organizing staff training, and ensuring high quality and safe care. Nichole and Tia are available for any questions, compliments, or concerns you have regarding our staff or office.
